Homeward Bound

The final day is always a big one full of emotions where you are both happy, sad and everything in between.  Exhaustion plays a big part.  It is great to break up the big long day of travel with a film.  Somehow it makes it seem a shorter journey!  Everyone this week gave their best and did really well with some having an extra exciting time changing their accommodation to assist others.  Here are two brave campers trying out their third room - a pod.  They clearly loved it.

Thank you to all the instructors: Mike, Martin, Raffa, Jude, Colleen, Gordon and Nick for providing such great opportunities for us to learn and have fun.  Also the rest of the team behind the scenes: Erin's gran and the rest of the kitchen staff for the lovely meals, the caretakers and the cleaning staff who all took care of our needs whatever they may be.
Final words from Nick
Ready for home

Almost there!
A huge thank you must go to the staff who accompanied the children as their collective team effort ensured it was a successful week despite any challenges faced.  They did have some fun themselves...

Review Night 2016

Review night is always a special night with lots of laughs and memorable moments.  This year was no different but the standard was particularly high.  Here are some stills for the moment!

Happy Birthday

We had a birthday girl here at Lagganlia today and we had a lovely cake made for us for our supper.  Thank you to the kitchen staff who made us lovely food this week.  Yum! Yum!  Our birthday girl really enjoyed her special day.

Sorry Mum, we were really busy and forgot.  She had a great day!

Thrilling Thursday

Wow our last full day at Lagganlia and the weather did not let us down, glorious sunshine throughout the day with a small peppering of rain in the afternoon.  Plenty of challenges still to complete, here are thoughts about today:

Group 4
Today we went walking, we walked up a hill called Creag Ghiuthsachan.  It is 603 metres high.  To walk up the hill it took about two hours.  We had a break half way up the hill and a full lunch at the top.  On the way down, we tripped a few times, some of us rolled a bit and once we got back to the path, we walked to the bridge, got our wetsuits and helmets on so we could go gorge walking.  Once we got in the water it was really cold but after a minute, it became warmer.  In the rapids of the stream/river, we went sliding down through fast flowing water.  At the end we came out of the water and got a lift in the cleaners cars.  It was wet but fun!  Thank you to all the instructors for a great week. Scott Mc & Connor

Group 5
Today our group did archery in the morning and in the afternoon, we did climbing and abseiling.  In archery, we baked a cake corresponding to the colour of the target e.g. white – sugar, black – chocolate, blue – icing, red – strawberries and yellow – butter.  We also practiced and got shown how to hold the bow.
After we had our lunch, we went swimming in the river Feshie and then went climbing and abseiling.  We got there by mini bus that was our final activity day at Lagganlia.

Group 1

Today we went skiing in the morning. We got to go on the ski lift and learned how to get up the slope…and then down. People fell over a lot at the start but everyone got better. It was REALLY hot in the morning, but most of us managed. The slope is like big toothbrushes. In the afternoon we started off with kayaking, we had a kayak each this time and went down to the pool/pond near the river. We played ball catch, we did this for thirty minutes or so and then went for another swim further along the river. We had fun swimming down the ‘rapids’ and it felt like you could be swept along the river, but our awesome instructor made sure we didn’t.  We got changed then headed to the ‘Low Line’, it was like an obstacle course but needed lots of balancing and concentration skills. Some people were really fast and some people fell, but they were okay because the ropes and things were low down. We thought it was hard, wet, soggy, midgiefying, but fun AND needed a lot of balancing, thinking, swinging and helping each other Oh, and did we mention Mike was excellent? By Thorfinn and Justine – and the rest of the group.

Then we canoed the whole way back to the place we started at and right after that we got the boats on the trailer and got back to Lagganlia to type this blog.

See you tomorrow!!

Group  3 – Rosanne , Elizabeth ,Scott D

Wednesday Night Activity-

Our activity this evening was night line . night line is where the leader and their group have to pick up a rope . with the rope comes goggles that have been blacked out (you can’t see out of them ).the obstacle course was in the forest it was made out of ropes, nets, tyres and barrels. We had lots of fun trying to find our way in the dark over the obstacles.
Thursday

Hill walk and gorge walk-

Today we walked up a big hill which was 600m.  We saw lots of ant nests and mountians.  When we got to the top of the hill we had lunch and the view was beautiful.  Next our group went to a different gorge it was made of a waterfalls there were several water slides that we went down, the slides were fun !!! we also went in a water fall.  on one of the big slides we went down in groups of 3,5  g. on the way back Rafa found yellow carnivores  eating flowers that eat insects.

Today our team climbed Meall a’ Bhuachaille in the Glenmore forest park it felt like my thighs were on fire. When we got to the top we had our packed lunch and hot chocolate. After our lunch we went down a steep hill. On our way back we passed Loch Morlich. We walked eight miles in four hours ad ten minutes. It was hard but the view was beautiful.

Tuesday Night.-group 3-Danny, Kate and Ewan

On Tuesday night we did orienteering, the weather was dismal. But that did not stop the midges. A lot of teams got lost on number nineteen; it got a lot of us lost. We teamed up with other Orkney schools.

Wednesday-group 3 Danny, Kate and Ewan

Morning

Our day started with getting equipped to go absailing.   We went to a forest with a random cliff in the middle. Rafa got the gear set up, Erica went first and made good speed. Soon after Ewan was good until – he crashed landed. Yet Danny and Kate wasn’t keen – but Danny had the power and made it alive. On the other hand Kate got tricked and ended up doing something she did not want to do. Over all absailing was great with the help and encouragement all of our friends, but most of all Rafa.

Afternoon
In the afternoon we went canoeing! , it was so much fun and we need to say a very big well done to Kate who tripped on the ledge of the canoe and fell in! We worked on paddle skills. After we went swimming we played catch. We round up the canoeing as fun, though sore.

Wednesday-group 1

We went canoeing and we did archery. In archery we had competitions. We did boys vs. girls, the boys won the first one by six points and Charlotte won overall on the second one the girls won by 48 points and Megan won overall. We also did tree climbing which was a big tree that had wood blocks on it, it was very hard but almost everyone made it to the top. Megan went first (very brave of her). If you get to the top you get to ring the bell and in between the archery and tree climbing we sat and Mike (our very awesome instructor) gave us sweeties and biscuit.

Then we got stuff for canoeing and got on the bus to loch Insh where we canoed & played some games. Justine & Thorfinn were the first to capsize. In the first game Mike threw some tennis balls and we had to sail towards them and take them into our boats and count how many we had. After that we had a swim and went back to the centre we had tea and went for our night activity which was  night line it was an activity that we were all blind folded and went around a course following a piece of rope!

By Leah and Jessica
Note from Mrs. Coltherd – we saw ospreys circling their nest.

Wednesday-group 5

Hello!

Today my group went on A LONG cycle around Glenfeshie. It got a bit tiring going uphill and over bumps, roots of trees and stones. We also did tree climbing it was a MASSIVE tree!

I (Erin C) only got half way and chickened out. Some people got all the way up! What! Also, Erin C dropped and kept falling for 213 seconds.

And thats around our day it was AMAZING BYE!

Wednesday-group 4

This morning me and my group went canoeing, it was very hard at the start but me and my group got the grip of it eventually. Jude our instructor showed us how to turn around in a 360 degrees turn again we got it eventually) Jude threw some plastic balls into the water to see which boat got the most of them. Then we went to an island in the river, lit a fire and made hot chocolate. At the end of the lesson we got to capsize the canoe and go for a good old swim. By Josie 7E

After lunch we took a minibus to a forest with a big cliff in it to go ABSAILING.First we had to walk up the path with our harnesses and helmets on, we set our bags down and when it was our turn we got the ropes hooked on to us. When we went down we had to lean back so we were sideways. I flipped upside down when I was half way down the cliff on my second go but I managed to get the right way again. On the way back through the forest we picked some leaves called wild sorrel and they tasted like apples. By Eylee

P.S the wild sorrel was edible.

Tuesday - Wild Weather Day

Hello everyone, Tuesday already done - weather forecast:  Start of day - brilliant blue skies, sunshine and extremely hot.  Midday - darkening skies, thunder and lightning.  Afternoon - lots and lots of rain.  Children were again brilliant with lots of challenges faced and the weather didn't dampen any activities.  Enjoy reading about today:

 Group 5
Hello from group 5.  Day #2 in our group for breakfast we had cereal, toast and rolls with sausages.  For our first activity we swam a gorge and jumped off of lots of cliffs.  Then we came back and had lunch.  After lunch we went skiing, when we came back we were soaking wet because there was a thunder storm and it rained a lot.  That has been day 2 by Emily, Zander and Isaac.

Group 4
Day 2 in the morning group 4 went to a gorge and we put wet suits on. It was really warm. In the water it started off cold but after a bit of time it was pretty warm. Surprisingly the water tasted nice. We got to deep water and jumped off rocks. We also lay down and went through the rapid water too. At the end we all dried up and got changed. By Robbie
In the afternoon we went to the ski store. We got some ski boots, skis, gloves and helmets and headed to the dry slope. People thought that when Liam T fell over it was funny but then Mr. Hill fell over. I got three quarters of the way up. By Frankie
(Note by Mr Hill- the nice cleaning lady gave me a towel because I left mine at home)

Group 3
After we got up, we went down to breakfast.  Once we finished breakfast, we had to rush up the stairs to tidy up our rooms for room inspection.  The highest score was 9 and the lowest score was 6.  Raffa told us that we were going to do mountain biking.  Then we got us our bikes, helmets and told us to check our brakes and gears.  We left about 10 o’clock and came back at 12:30.  Once we were off and away, almost everyone fell off their bikes.  It was a lot of fun (Raffa led us the wrong way and we had to go up a steep hill).  That was our morning activity.
Our afternoon activity was gorge walking and cliff jumping.  We walked all the way to the bridge and turned right and headed down to the gorge.  We had to cross a slab (rock).  Raffa told us to jump backwards into the water.  We had to climb up to our next jump (the jump of doom).  It was the second biggest jump but the highest jump was the ‘jump of death’.  The first person to jump off was Maciej and he said ‘ME!’ constantly when Raffa asked him a question.  We went through the rapids and did the ‘Belly Flop’ challenge and the ‘jump of death! After 2 shots, we walked back to the centre.

Then we had lunch, after that we went gorge walking (more like swimming) It was really cold to start off with but we warmed up quickly. We jumped off 3 metre cliffs and went in rapids. We all got soaked but it was really fun. (I am proud of myself for going down the rapids because I was scared at first – Erin J.)( I was so proud of myself for trying everything – Samantha)

Group 1
Today our group did the gorge walk.  Its name is Feshie Gorge, it was amazing because we got to jump over very high rocks. We got VERY WET !!! We looked great in our wet suits but we looked like penguins. After our lovely lunch we went mountain/puddle/very wet biking in Glen Feshie Forest (We hope that is the right name) It was very bumpy and hard to get across some of the paths. There was thunder and lightning – it was very loud but it cleared away after a peedie while. We also did some bike skills – going along a seesaw, balancing along a narrow beam. Mike (our instructor) showed us how to do the skills part first, some of us were a little unsure but lots of people in the group had a go and did really well. A very full on day.
